In 1976 the company moves into its new headquarters.
After a good two years of construction, the new headquarters on Carl-Bertelsmann-Strasse in Gütersloh is ready. In early 1976, the first Bertelsmann employees begin to move here from offices in the city center and various other locations. The building is extended in subsequent years due to increasing staff numbers. Departments including Corporate Communications, Finance, Audit & Consulting and Human Resources have their offices here today. In November 2001, the term “Hauptverwaltung” (central administration) for the seat of Bertelsmann's Gütersloh headquarters is replaced by the more commonly used international term of “Corporate Center.” The name underscores the concept of an entrepreneurial decision-making center for the concerns of the Group as a whole.
