Bertelsmann Increases Its Stake in Penguin Random House

Bertelsmann increases its stake in Penguin Random House from 53 to 75 percent, giving it a strategic three-quarters majority in the world’s largest trade publishing group. As one of Bertelsmann’s oldest core businesses, book publishing is a big part of the Group’s identity; the share increase represents another milestone.
Meanwhile, its portfolio of promising young companies is also growing: In India, Bertelsmann acquires the e-learning specialist Eruditus, thereby expanding its commitment to high-quality continuing-education programs.
BMG acquires the Nashville-based BBR Music Group, possibly the most renowned indie label in country music’s Mecca. For Bertelsmann’s music subsidiary, this is the largest single acquisition in the recorded-music business since the company was founded in 2008.
