The Kommissionshaus Buch & Ton (Book & Audio Commissioning Company) is the nucleus of Bertelsmann’s modern-day logistics and services business.
With the official establishment of the Kommissionshaus Buch & Ton in 1959, Bertelsmann takes a step whose ramifications for the company cannot be foreseen at this point. At first the Kommissionshaus is only responsible for shipping books and records for Bertelsmann’s Lesering, Schallplattenring and publishers, but more and more third-party publishers are added over the years. Renamed Vereinigte Verlagsauslieferung (VVA) in 1968, the company quickly develops into one of the leading distribution companies for publishers in the German-speaking countries. It currently serves more than 200 publishers. So the Kommissionshaus is the nucleus for today's Arvato division, which now has more than 70,000 employees worldwide.
